Gregory Scopelitis
Founder
Over the past 20 years, Gregory has invested in renewable energy projects globally, spanning Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific, and North and South America. Early in his career he realised that finance could be made to work sustainably for the planet and its people. He has since dedicated himself to working across all energy markets from those that are mature and stable, to emerging markets on the frontier.
Previously, Gregory built and led the investment team of an energy-focused private equity firm with around £500m of capital which he deployed by setting up and managing a series of energy transition platforms around the world, including in the UK, the US, Brazil and Australia. With Mizuho, one of the world’s largest offshore wind banks, he successfully led the financial advisory and lending business to finance multi-gigawatt offshore wind farms in the UK, France, Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands, Germany, and Taiwan.
Gregory has spent over half of his career working in emerging markets with development finance institutions such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank, Proparco, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). He initiated early-stage investment activities in offshore wind in markets such as Brazil, Poland, Philippines, and Vietnam.
He has invested in most renewable technologies in emerging markets such as hydropower, geothermal, solar, and biogas. He has also advised numerous Governments and utilities on structuring sustainable energy infrastructure programmes, maximising local benefits, and attracting the required international capital.
